The three stage illumination through the large water viewing window, not only adds to the visual appeal of the kettle, but provides a handy at a glance indication of which function the kettle is operating at.  Blue indicates that the kettle is plugged in, purple that it’s boiling and red means that the kettle is in ‘keep warm’ mode.
